How to set up Alternate user credentials for the Entra ID Backup Portal

We strongly recommend that as a part of the onboarding process you create alternate sign-in credentials for your user account in the Backup Portal. Then you have a reliable and safe way to always access your organization's backup environment, even when there are service interruptions on Microsoft side that may affect the login process with Microsoft credentials.

Create alternate user credentials

On Users page, click the Key icon 'Add alternative email' next to your own username.

Fill in the following fields:

  • Email address to be used for alternate sign-in.
  • Password. It is created for this service only, i.e. does not need to be the same as your email password.
  • Confirm the password
  • Click Save

Sign in with alternate user credentials

From now on, you can use the Sign in with alternative email option on the Backup Portal login page to sign in with your newly-created user credentials. You will get the same access rights as you get when signing in with your Microsoft 365 account (admin / limited user roles / end-user).

Note

  • If you have already created alternate user credentials for Nexetic Backup for Microsoft 365, the same credentials can also be used to sign in to the Entra ID backup environment. When alternate user credentials already exist, the key icon is in 'Edit alternative email' format
  • It is also recommended to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your alternate user credentials. Check the instruction from here
