Can dynamic groups be used to configure backups?

Support for dynamic groups has been added to the service on September 12th, 2024. You can enable backup of User services (Mail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, Private Teams chats) for members in selected dynamic Entra ID groups.

To configure backup for dynamic group:

  • Enter the Settings page and select User Services and Users in Entra ID Groups.
  • Find and select the dynamic group from the groups drop-down menu.
  • Select the services for backup. Note that Add new Entra ID Group users automatically to backup setting must be enabled.
  • Save the settings.
  • A user and group synchronization needs to be completed to have the the dynamic group members fetched and enabled. User synchronization is done automatically every 12 hours. You can also initiate a manual user sync by clicking the button at the top-left corner of the Users page. If you initiate user sync manually, you can track progress of the task in the Task Manager.
  • Once the user synchronization has been completed, you will see the backup statuses of dynamic group members updated on Users page (backup = enabled).
