How to assign admin roles in Entra ID Backup?

Users with the Global Admin role will have full admin rights in the customer's Entra ID backup environment. If additional users need admin access, it can be assigned through the Backup Portal.

1. Assign Roles to Users

To assign admin roles to users, go to the Users page and click the Set user roles icon  next to the user you want to update. You can filter the users by their role status using the Role column filter. Users with admin roles - whether assigned through Microsoft user roles or on this page - will be marked with a green role icon. Users without any roles will be shown with a grey role icon.

2. Role options

The available access roles for Entra ID backup are listed below.

  • Full access: Provides a complete admin view with access to all modules and pages in Entra ID backup, along with the ability to configure backups and restore data.
    • Note: Tenant Global Admins will always have full admin access in the backup portal, and this role cannot currently be disabled or restricted.
  • No access: No access to Entra ID backup

To assign a role, select the appropriate radio button for the corresponding user:

Each time a user signs in to the Backup Portal, the system checks both the Microsoft user role and any access roles assigned within the Backup Portal. If an access role is assigned, the corresponding access level is granted.
