Restore Wizard: Restore More in One Go
The new Restore Wizard walks you step by step through restoring several users and services at once. You no longer have to start each restore separately. Choose what to restore and where, and track progress in Task Manager. This is especially useful when you need to recover after a larger incident.
Export a Full Mailbox as a PST File
You can now download a complete mailbox from backup as a PST file that opens directly in Outlook. The export runs in the background, so you can keep working while it’s prepared. When it’s ready, download it from Task Manager. The download link stays valid for seven days.
Single emails and folders can still be downloaded as EML or ZIP files, as before.
Entra ID: Device Local Administrator Passwords (LAPS)
Entra ID backup now includes your devices’ local administrator passwords (LAPS). If a device loses its connection to Entra ID or a password is lost, you can find the device in the Backup Portal and retrieve its password securely. The passwords are stored encrypted.
Skipped Items: See What Wasn’t Backed Up and Why
Sometimes a single item can’t be backed up, for example because it’s locked or too large. The Backup Portal now shows these skipped items with a clear explanation of the reason, plus a link to the original item where available. You can mark items as reviewed, so you can tell new skipped items from ones you’ve already handled. Skipped items are also listed in backup alerts.
Backup Portal Improvements
- Storage location for each product: each product’s dashboard (Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Power Platform and Power BI) shows where its backup data is stored, so you can easily confirm where your data is kept.
- Invoiced quantity for each product: each product’s dashboard shows the quantity your invoice is based on, such as the number of users. This makes it easier to compare your backup with your invoice.
- Backup health on the dashboard: see at a glance whether backups for each service and user are running normally.
- Backup size per user: the Users list now shows how much backup storage each user takes, and you can sort by it
- Faster file search: file search now finds partial matches too, and you can still search for whole words if needed.
- Restores you can follow: restore results include direct links to the restored OneDrive and SharePoint files and Outlook folders. You can also cancel or restart a restore in Task Manager.
- Finnish and Swedish: the Backup Portal is now available in Finnish and Swedish as well as English.
- Dark theme and new login page: a dark theme for the portal and a refreshed, clearer login page.
