What Gets Backed Up by Default
In Nexetic Backup for Laptop, all work-related files and folders are backed up by default—excluding program and application folders. This ensures that important user data is always protected.
Note: Some applications store database files in program folders, which are not backed up by default. If you use such applications, you’ll need to manually include those files in the backup.
Excluding additional Files or Folders from Backup
Both administrators and end-users - if permitted - can exclude specific content types or folders from backup—for example:
-
External drives
-
Compressed files
-
Binary files
This can be useful for optimizing backup performance or managing storage space—especially on plans with limited storage.
(Note: This is generally not necessary with the Unlimited plan.)
For End-Users (via the Backup Client):
-
Open the client and go to Settings.
-
Click "...except" under Exclusions.
-
In the pop-up window:
-
You can see the content types that have some file types excluded. Click the links to view or modify the excluded file types. Check the boxes for the file types you want to exclude from the backup. File types marked with a red X are excluded from the backup
- Click the Change button and then Folder to view or modify the list of excluded folders. This opens the folder structure of your computer. Navigate the directory and tick the folders you don’t want to back up, whilst making sure the ones you want to include remain unticked.
-
⚠️ Important: Leave key folders like Desktop and Documents unticked (no red “X”) to ensure they are backed up.
For Administrators (via the Portal):
Administrators can centrally manage backup exclusions for all users through the Nexetic Backup for Laptop Portal.
They can define which folders or content types should be excluded—such as external drives, compressed files, or binary files—to optimize storage usage and align with company policies. These settings can be applied automatically to all users under the organization’s account.
