You will learn how to search and restore SharePoint and Teams files. There are two ways to locate the files:
1. From the SharePoint & Teams files page, based on the location of the file. You can search or browse the sites/teams and their document folders. This option is described in section 2.a.
2. From the Teams chats page, based on the chat or channel where the file was shared. You can locate the chat/post where the file was shared, and enter the location of the shared files from there. This option is described in section 2.b.
1. Login to the Backup Portal
You have two options to log in to the 365 Backup Portal.
- Log in via Nexetic Portal: https://portal.nexetic.com
- Log in directly to 365 Backup Portal: https://shield-cloud.nexetic.com
Note
Using Nexetic Portal is recommended for partners and resellers. In Nexetic Portal you can manage all your M365 backup customers in one place.
2. Find the content to be restored
2.a - OPTION 1: Search for files from the 'SharePoint & Teams Files' page
Files backed up from SharePoint sites and Team channels are found under one page in Backup portal, to make it easier to locate the files. To locate Teams or SharePoint files, click SharePoint & Teams files on the top menu.
You can search Teams or SharePoint files in the following ways:
- Input text into the search field and select if you are searching SharePoint sites / Teams, SharePoint lists / Teams channels - or if you are searching for files and folders.
2.b - OPTION 2: Search for files from the 'Teams chats' page
You can also locate the files based on the chat or channel where the file was shared. Enter the Teams chats page. You can filter the teams and channels by typing in the Filter by team and channel box.
Once you have located the correct channel or chat, select it and if there are any files shared in that post or chat, you can see the button View channel files. By clicking it, based on the file location, you will land on the correct folder either on SharePoint&Teams Files page or OneDrive page and you can restore or download the files from there.
3. Restore SharePoint site / list; or Team / channel
You can restore an entire SharePoint site or Team from backup. If the original site or team no longer exists in the organization's SharePoint/Teams, or if you want to select another site or team to restore the data to, you can select another site or team as the restore destination.
You can also select a SharePoint list or Teams channel to be restored.
First, select the site/list or team/channel and click on the Restore -> Restore Selected button.
3.1. Select the target site/team, or list/channel
By default, the site is restored to the original site in SharePoint.
If you want to restore the site contents to another SharePoint site / Team, you can select another site or team from the Target site drop-down menu. There is a search option to help you locate sites or teams by typing any part of their name into the Search field.
If you are restoring SharePoint list or Teams channel, you can restore either to the same folder, or to a custom folder. Click the Restore to a custom folder box and type a name for the target folder. If a folder with the given name doesn't exist under the site or team, it will be created during the restore process.
3.2. Select the snapshot date
By default, the most recent snapshot is restored, meaning the latest versions of the files in the selected location. However, you can also restore snapshot from a past date. Check the Restore from a past date checkbox and select any past day from the calendar to get file versions from the selected date.
3.3. Select 'With permissions'
It is also possible to restore SharePoint site / list or Team / channel permissions. If you would like to restore the permissions, check the box With permissions.
3.4. Start the restore process
Start the restore process by clicking Restore. Please note that the restoration process may take some time. You can always track the progress of the restore task in Task Manager.
Note
When restoring a site to a different site:
If the target SharePoint site or Team already includes a list or channel with the same name as any of the lists or channels being restored (e.g., 'Documents' list or 'General' channel), the content will be restored to the existing list or channel.
4. Restore folders and files
To restore any selected folders or files, select the folder and/or files you want to restore. Then click on the Restore -> Restore selected button.
4.1. Select the target folder
By default, the files are restored to the original location/folder.
If you want to restore the files to a different location under the same SharePoint site / Team, you can check the box Restore to a custom folder. Type a name for the destination folder.
In both scenarios, if the destination folder does not already exist, it will be created during the restore process.
If the SharePoint site or Team where the files/folders are located no longer exists in SharePoint/Teams, you will get to select another SharePoint site/Team as a restore destination.
4.2. Select the snapshot date
By default, the latest file versions will be restored. However, you can also restore older versions of the files. Check the box Restore from a past date and select any past day from the calendar to get the selected date's file versions.
Start the restore process by clicking Restore. Please note that the restoration process may take some time. You can always track the progress of the restore task in Task Manager.
Step 5. Download single file versions
Click on the file to download it to the local workstation. You can see all the backed up file versions for the selected file on the right-hand side. Choose the correct revision and click Download. You can also initiate the restore for single file versions from here by clicking Restore; the advantage is that you can actually see which dates have a new version of the file.
Note
Download option is currently limited to single file versions only.
