Restore Users from Entra ID Backup (short version)

1. Sign in

Go to https://shield-cloud.nexetic.com and sign in with your Microsoft 365 admin account.
(Resellers can also sign in via Nexetic Portal.)

2. Open Entra ID Backup

Select Backup for Entra ID from the main menu.

3. Open the Users page

Go to Users under Users & Groups to view all backed‑up users.

4. Find the user(s)

Search or sort by Name, Object ID, or Last modification date.

5. Select what to restore

You can restore:

  • All users - shown in the screenshot below
  • Multiple users - select the relevant checkboxes
  • A single user - select that user's checkbox

Example: Select all users

6. (Optional) View user details and versions

Click a user to:

  • Browse versions by date
  • See changed attributes
  • View Group Memberships, Role Assignments, Authentication Methods, and the associated Change Logs.

7. Choose restore options

Select the snapshot date & time, then choose:

  • With object – restore the user object (recreate or overwrite if it exists)
  • As new – create a new user with a new Object ID
    (Not available when restoring multiple users)
  • Block sign‑in – restore the user as disabled
  • With memberships – restore group memberships
  • With role assignments – restore admin roles
  • With authentication methods - restore authentication‑method metadata (registered methods only, not secrets)
  • To another tenant – restore to a previously added target tenant and domain

Click Restore to start the process.

8. Reset passwords

Passwords, private keys, and MFA secrets aren’t backed up or restored due to Microsoft restrictions. After restore, an admin must reset the user’s password, and the user must re‑register MFA during sign‑in.
